Yup, that's the earlier flat-sided 3-piece hub. That's what came with my '48 Olmo, '49 Bianchi, '53 Guerra. As for more rare... I've seen more flat-sided USED hubs, but I've seen more round-sided NOS hubs, and the round-sided hubs are more common on restored bikes. Perhaps that's because it's easier to replace the entire hub than to re-chrome the barrel, plus the old aluminum flanges could get pretty ratty over time.
