Sometimes the perfect tool just isn't available. Like last night, when I wanted to install a NOS Weinmann brake lever on a bike. Darned band/clamp had the wrong shape to slide onto the handlebar. Too egg-shaped for the circular bar. Bending did not work. And then, I saw it: Older Japanese stem lying there, with nice wedge at the bottom instead of cone like the Italian stems. Voila! and Cello! slid the lever onto the stem, tightened the stem bolt a fair amount, and bingo the clamp decided to be circular.

Now surely you have had such inspirational Eureka moments you can share. No, don't ask me about the time I appropriated my wife's fine paint brushes for some bike task... :-)

On topic, of course.
