As near as I can read it, it's N 020, and I can't tell if there's another digit in the string. The repaint is rather thick.

It now seems there is no souce for the old decals. Is there anyone with intact or mostly intact examples that we can get some high resolution photos, or even better, the photos themselves? It's looking very much like the original Nobilette "hollow" decals may be gone forever.

Well, another hallowed bike of my youth has snuck into the fleet, a nice race frame by Mark Nobilette. Mark was a local builder in Michigan when I got started, and made some very nice looking bikes as I recall. I've just taken delivery of a '78 model, with pretty lugs and a nifty fastback seatstay. But it rather desperately needs some nicer paint.

Monsieur N is still in business, but no longer stocks the old transfers. Has anyone ever made reproduction old school Nobilette transfers, the ones that look like this?

My new bike can be seen here:

Thanks in advance:

Tom Adams, Shrewsbury NJ Cool! Looks pretty much just like my 1977 one, that he restored for me earlier this year. What's the serial number? Sounds like maybe 0073 or 0079 from the seller's description.... When Mark re-did mine (in red), he still had the early decals, but they crazed underneath the clear, so his guy had to paint it twice. I'm guessing that he tossed the remaining stock of early decals after that experience. He put the next-generation ones on mine, in yellow. Let's do a Nobilette-themed ride sometime! Tom Sanders, don't you have one, IIRC? Other folks? Greg Parker Ann Arbor, Michigan former home of Mark Nobilette (at Cycle Cellar)
