Growing a Beard - 1937

Here's proof that, sometimes, watching a bicycle race can take way too much time:
Same day. Same race. Same spectators (marked in each picture as A, B and C). The guy smoking the pipe stood there so long, he grew a full, bushy beard.
Either that, or I've got the pictures reversed, and he had time to go home, have a nice shave, and still make it back in time to get his picture taken again.
Either way, it makes a strange pair of pictures.
Oh!... The race is the 1937 Grand Prix des Nations, and the riders are
Ernest a.k.a. "Gaston" Rebry (clean-shaven photo - 21st place), and
Pierre Cogan (bearded photo, eventual winner).
