Just a quick image of day one, Velo Rendezvous:
Lovely, lovely sunny day, 25 miles up and down the LA beaches, drop dead gorgeous restored machines and grizzled battle scarred veterans abounding. Stopping on the way back for a quick malted hop refueling. Baylis, Grabus and Pergolizzi dueling at the front. Pergo going so hard he overcooks it into a turn and runs into the sand on his '73 Hurlow. Lovely dinner at a Mexican restaurant overlooking the bay. Later, guiding Wayne Bingham back to the hotel becaue he met us at the ride start ( and who saved our lives by renting a minivan, saving Pergs, Mike Schmidt and I from having to shoehorn three bikes back into the Crown Vic), and ending the day before the hotel lounge fire with a glass of Kentucky's finest at my side, Pergo, Bingham, Schmidt and self sitting and listening to Bret Horton spin stories of acquiring the earliest know Paris Roubaix prize medal.
