Subject: [CR]Colnago Mexico Crimped Tubing

There is lots of confusing information on the difference between Colnago Mexico's and Super's. A summer 1981 issue of Bikecology (see http://www.bikevi lle.com/frames.html) has advertisements for U.S. imported Supers and Mexi cos and states that "they are identical in every way except tubing" with the only diffence is in the weight of the tubing, with the Super tubeset weighing 2,065 grams (frame and fork listed at 5 lbs 15 oz) and the Mexic o weighing 1,650 grams (frame and fork listed at 5 lbs 9 1/2 oz). Many p eople, including Colnago's current website specify crimped tubing for the Mexico model. However, I have a vintage frame with original paint and t he original Mexico decals that seems to correspond to the Bikecology info rmation. This frame has the cheesy chrome decal on the chain stay.

Does anyone know if frames were changed to crimped tubing at some time in production? Were there different qualities of frames produced for the e xport markets? When did Colnago switch to pantographed seat stays? How about recessed brake mounting holes?, braze on's for cables?, chromed cha in stays?, chromed forks?, sloping fork crowns?
