Subject: [CR]Derailleur Jockey Wheels Teeth or Toothless?

Hey Grouppo, I'd appreciate comments on a jockey wheel observation. I was rummaging through my stash of old Huret derailleurs and noticed various combinations of rear derailleur jockey wheels. The earliest jockey wheels were toothless. Later the top wheel sprouted teeth while the bottom wheel remained toothless. Finally, (as w/ contemporary derailleurs), both wheels show teeth! Is this evolotion? What are the advantages to having only the top wheel con dente? Do toothless jockey wheels transmit less chain friction? Scott Davis St. Paul, MN USA
