Greetings,

I'm the proud owner of the same bike for the last twenty eight years. It's a Charles Roberts touring frame (lugged, all double-butted Reynolds) with all Dura Ace Components (the original versions of this trademark, all black). I assembled it in my senior year of college, rode it the length of England after graduation, and romanced my future wife riding it on a tour of the coast of Maine. I've kept it in pretty good condition over the years, in part because I went about a decade not riding a lot when my kids were young. Although I now do most of my riding on my daily commute on a three speed, I still take my Roberts out on the road on weekends, and am about to do my first century on it.

I've joined this list because I've realized that as it ages it's going to take great care and knowledge to keep the bike in working order. With the kids now in college, I can't afford a new bike, and I'm not ready to throw in the towel on this one and settle for one of those ugly fat welded things. On the assumption that I'm in the company of more knowledgeable folk, I'll largely keep my mouth shut and listen.

cheers,
Scot Osterweil
