My own experience with the Conloy Asp rims on my (your!) '48 RRA is that 100 psi is the workable max. And yes it was also the front tyre that lifted off the rim at 120 psi not the rear. On my Clubmans (27" on the '51 and 26" on the '48 and '49), I am using tyres rated at 90 psi max and no worries. The RRA has IRC Triathalons rated at 120 psi max.. super riding clincher tyres and at 100 psi still quite satisfactory.
