WHEEL SIZE??? as I am now into Italian bikes, the Vittoria frame that I have, NOW thought to be a early 50s vintage?? I have been having trouble getting brake caliphers to fit finally Mike Kone had Univerisal center pulls that must be long reach and they fit the 700cc sew up rims that I have,, I think the frame MAY have been for export and built with 27" wheels, NOW my question to you all is, What size wheels did the the riders in the TDF in the 1920 s 1930-40s and 50s use??, looking at the posters that I have of TDF riders in the 1921 Intimate portraits Etc, APART from the fact they are all using BSA chainsets and single Fixed or free, the wheels look HUGE!!! could they be 28"??? then looking the Batali and Coppi poster shar ing a bottle!!! Coppi who was Very tall and must have rode a 24-25: frame his wheels look big and allmost NO clearance for the toe clips on front,SO did they all use 27" wheels or 700cc?? I do have NOS two Dunlop #3 Tubs that are marked 27" I know you could get 26" also, (One Tub Blew the tube anyone know who fixes Sew Ups??) when did 700cc rims come into place, where they allways used?? if they did use 27" or somesuch where are they now, can you still get them, are 27" Italian rims around?? OR SQUARE!!! by now, Cheers John Crump Oldbrit. Parker Co.USA
