I think the weenieism has ever been thus. When I was evaluating the components to put on my Roberts (1976), weight was always high on the list of attributes considered. In those days 1st generation DuraAce was beginning to make a run at Campy, and it was deemed significant that some Shimano parts were a few grams lighter. cheers, Scot O.
