In the mid fifties Huret sold the standard Tour de France rear gear for 25/- and the L Bobet Special for 32/6. The dearer gear had eight holes in each roller. An even dearer L Bobet special had a double right hand lever (note not drive side!) and twin cables. What was that about. The above info comes from my 1958 edition of Ron Kitching's "everything cycling" catalogue. Mainly French stuff but also Campag Cinelli etc. How did we pay those prices? Almost £4 for a top of the range Pirelli tubular. More than a day's pay for a tradesman. Ray Green, Brighton England
