Subject: [CR]Eric Zabel's bike collection

An aricle in Feb 2001 Cycle Sport described Eric Zabel's Trophy room. At that time he had 13 bikes the earliest being from the 1992 Olympics. Eric won the bunch sprint from 70 riders but only for 4th place so no medal. A certain Lance Armstrong was 14th. He has a nice Bianchi with chrome lugs, Shimano equipment Michelin Axial tyres and a Syncos (sic) stem. Maybe he swapped that one? The article says that he made a deal with Fausto Pinarello that if he won a big race he got to keep the bike for free. He says his first "nice bike" was a Gazelle. Oddly he has kept each pair of cycling shoes he has been issued and now has dozens. I guess times were tough in East Germany and he doesnt like to throw things away.

Next season he moves to Milram with Pettachi so i guess it will be Pinarellos as usual for Eric. Ray Green Brighton England
