Thanks to the incredible generosity of a well-known CR list member, I now have a functional Model 57 crankset (52/38).
Had to cut and bend the tail of a spoon to grip the notch on the rear of its recessed nuts to get the 47 ring off.
It did the trick, but the hex bolt heads are still rusty after having sat in a garage for almost 40 years.
They are also slightly bent at the edges after being forcibly removed.
The recessed nuts are 8mm rather than the usual 10 mm variety.
Does anybody know where to get a hold of a clean set?
This is for a show quality bike.
Also needed is the correct set of dust caps.
I'm looking for the three hole type, like the ones in the Rebour drawing on CR (http://www.classicrendezvous.com/France/Stronglight/strongl_mod_57.htm)
I've got plastic slotted ones but would really like the other.
