Not sure when he departed or who brazed up which model, but remember that the "Italia" was all about style rather than "quality", having the simpler lines of the race bikes from the Continent. All lugged Condors used lugs from outside, some were just "carved up" ("feature cut") in house upon receipt!

I have a 1970s Italia and it has that same badge that Ray Etherton has for auction. My guess is that you do have a more recent version. Set your sniping program for Ray's badge now!!!

Hi all,

I purchased a Condor Italia track frame with a very nice Condor repaint on Ebay this past week.

http://ebay.com/<blah> name=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 or item # 7198438916

Seller lists it as a 1970, but seems unsure of the age.

Does anyone know for sure when Bill Hurlow left Condor? I've read everything in the archives that had "Bill Hurlow" in it. Some CR listers say he was there until the "early 60s" and others say to the "early 70s". So which is it?

I am guessing that even while he was still there he probably left the brazing of the Italia model (which used lugs they bought instead of ones produced in-house) to apprentices or junior framebuilders? I know the Italia was their least expensive model, at least according to the 1978 catalogue on Mark Bulgiers site...

One thing I noticed is that the headbadge appears to be a newer style than the original. The rivets are not in the original badge holes. The wider holes in the head tube I believe are for the earlier badge - this badge is newer and has the (unused) holes closer together... compare to this headbadge for sale separately on Ebay: http://ebay.com/<blah> name=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1. Perhaps Condor put a new headbadge on when they repainted it?

Does anyone know how to de-code Condor serial numbers?

Are there any features of this frame that can help any of you take a guess at the age?

While the paint is nice, the more I learn about it the more I'm feeling I may have overpaid... :-(

Oh well, I'll build it up and bring it to Cirque - at least it fits the theme!

Thanks in advance for any info you can share,
