Chuck, All of my bikes with cotters have proper chainguards (trouser guards?) and of course mudguards.

I suppose when I get my RRA Moderne on the road next year, I'll start rolling up my trouser cuffs like a 7 year old.

In fact, for that one bike, I may as well install the cotters up-side-down (backwards?)
