Sorry about the duff information but he was already on the Olympic squad, pre Olympic preparations in Moscow, Sofia, and Aussie tracks including Darwin. You should also note that he saw off Norman sheil earlier in the year in the 4000 m British Pursuit Championship when Norman was the reigning World Champion. Tom lost in the final to Mike Gambrill of the Clarence CC. This was after two re-runs because of Tom puncturing, he was close to tears in the final third race and lost. So he was a bloody good tester who could be Tom in that September race.
