Prior to the second world war the fashion was for wider bars and shorter stems. Typical bars of the period British: Highgates 19", Marsh Levels 18", BSA Continentals 18", Bailey 18" and Sibbitt's you could even get in 20". A popular Continental make were Cimali at 17". After the war and especially in the 50's and early 60" stems were longer (John Holmes Proportioned!) and bars narrower. These old pre-war bars are wonderful for tandems the pilot had room for his thighs.

Thats all for now. Keep those wheels spinning, in your memories if not still on the road. Be lucky Mick Butler Huntingdon UK.
