While I believe this sort of question is forbidden in the CR list rules, I can fully understand and sympathize with your dilemma of not knowing what to offer a non-collector for a bike that you are interested in... maybe you don't want to take advantage of him with too low a price, or maybe you just want to talk him down from his dreams of a jackpot.

What I suggest you do is go to eBay and click on "Advanced Search" (right underneath the search box). Then select the "completed auctions only" box. This will give you a list of the closing prices of similar items to what you're looking for, from the last 30 days or so. If the item is not too uncommon, you may find one in the same condition to the one you are intersted in buying and that should give you a ballpark price. If not, you may have to make some extrapolations from the items that are there, or repeat the search in a week if you are not in a hurry.

In the case of an individual who thinks his bike is a rare treasure that will put his kid thru college, I would suggest printing out a few of the sale pages to take with you.
