If it's too fat to fit a derailer chain, it's 1/8" size. See: http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/chains-wide.html

If you're mounting it on a freewheel hub that has been set up for a multi-speed freewheel, you'll probably need to re-arrange spacers to get the chainline straight, then re-dish the wheel.
