Well, your eyes are sharper than mine. I can't make out the "A", but "531" seems clearly absent, so is indeed most probably the "A" tubing decal. I have a 1968 Zeus Olympic with that decal. Like Dale, I've never seen it on any frame except Zeus. Does anyone know exactly what "A" tubing was?

I am far from a Zeus expert but I have seen quite a few and I think 1970 + - a year is supportable by the decal style. The early to mid 70s saw a more elaborate (sophisticated?) style decal. What interests me is that Reynolds decal.. Looks like the Reynolds A tubing (not 531) the use of which was fairly common on early Zeus (in fact, Zeus is the only brand I personally have actually seen that decal used on!).

Jerry,

I've actually revised my assessment. After a few conversations with other members and looking through some things I'd forgotten I even had from investigating a couple years ago, I've come to the conclusion that the bike must be from ~1970 with newer tires, pedals, and a very new saddle. One of the interesting things was to discover that I have Super Alfa brake calipers and that another list member has Super Alfa 71 calipers. They look to be identical except for the addition of the 71, but this made me wonder if the 71 was added in 1971, sort of like the way Universal numbered it's calipers. Made me wonder if this might indicate the bike being from 1970.

The components are Zeus Criterium/ Grand Sport, with Super Alfa CP brakes. This stuff was, I believe, available throughout most or all of the 70's and some of it on into the 80's. Frame and decals look like early to mid 70's to me. I see nothing there to contradict either a 1974 or 1976 date.

Folks,

Have a look at the following if you have a minute (or more):

I've tentatively dated it as a '74 but I wonder if anyone with more Zeus knowledge could determine anything more specific. The person I purchased it from said he thought it was from ~'76 but wasn't sure.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

David
