The British Excelcior company was an entirely seperate entity from the American Schwinn/Super X variety. Chater-Lea also made motorcycles- many of the larger British manufacturers(Dunelt, Three Spires, New Hudson, Raleigh, Sunbeam, etc.) did motorcycles or "cyclemotors" (motorized middleweight bicycles) at one time or another. Many Contenental manufacturers (Motobecane and Bianchi just to name a couple) did the same. Lots of crossover.
