I believe that Groene Leeuw was a Flemish cycle manufacturer that was in business between 1934 and 1967. As far as the sport is concerned the glory years were 1962-66 when they co-sponsered the Wiel's team. Wiel's is a brand of beer. I'd be surprised if the Emporer of Herentals Rik Van Looy raced on a Groene Leeuw but there is a connection. The 1963 Worlds at Ronse finished in a bunch sprint and Rik took Benoni Beheyt from the right to left gutter but Beheyt just got past Rik. Although they were "team mates" for Belgium Beheyt rode for Wiels Groene Leeuw. Twenty five tears later the Worlds were again at Ronse and again finished with a controversial sprint. Steve Bauer put Claudie Criquielion on the deck and Maurizio Fondriest cruised past to take the rainbow jersey. Ray Green, Brighton, England.
