I may be mistaken, but isn't the rider in the left photo Frenchman Louis Bergaud rather than Charly Gaul? (If I squint my eyes just right, it also vaugely looks like Italian domestique Arrigo Padovan.) Reason it caught my eye is it would appear the national team jersey of the rider on the left is different than the rider on the right.
