Has anyone ever heard of a chromed frame cracking or breaking due to Hydrogen embrittlement? It's a stress reaction the metal experiences during the nickel plating phase of the chroming process. Also, what's your take on the merits of the use of "Frame Saver?"

I just took a look at the CR Main site, I looked up Magistroni, there is a Daniel Rebour drawing of the crankset that Gaul won the Tour on. A three arm steel crank with TA style adapter with TA style rings. The mystery continues.

Have had a look through my old pictures and I am sure its a three arm Stronglight cottered steel chainset on Simplex rings, the type with the three arm bolt on adaptors which give a six point fixing at the rings. The Official Tour de France Centennial book has some wonderful shots of Charly Gaul on this very set up pp.183, pp.187. Or you might be able to find it on this link which is very interesting. http://procycling.lequipe.fr/pagePhotos.php?SESSIONID=72612b184ecb1e2a7291a7 b2426aa230&page=17

Maybe my eyes are getting old, but isnt one pic of a TA 6 or 5 pin crank....depending how you view or count these things.....and the other pic seems to be a TA 3 armer.

Hi all, after reading Gregs comments I agreed, would seem better to leave them French threaded for another person one day, if you ever go to sell them, of coarse would also depend on how much you have to spend on getting a set of French threaded pedals, I have no idea what they are worth as all my pedals are 9/16".....regards wayne davidson Invers NZ,, about to enjoy Xmas meal soon, but having marmite on toast for breakfast....
