Maes Kint bars are named after the famous Belgium riders Sylvere Maes and Marcel Kint these bars invariably come with a Titan steel extension (stem). Titan made a beautiful under slung extension which was very popular with UK time trialers in the early 60's. The stems and bars were definitely available in the 50's through to the mid sixties when they became unfashionable Groene Leeuw was a Flemish cycling manufacturer and were a sponsor from 1934 untill 1967. From 1962 until 1966 the were co-sponsor with the brewery Wiel’s. Frans Demulder, Gilbert Desmet en Willy Vannitsen had numerous victories for the team. Their most famous rider was Benoni Beheydt who became World Champion in 1963.

In his first year as a professional, Walter Godefroot gained the Belgian title in a Wiel’s Groene Leeuw jersey.

Thats all for now. Keep those wheels spinning, in your memories if not still on the road. Be lucky Mick Butler Huntingdon UK.
