Having worked at shops that sold both Raleighs and Schwinns during the 70s, I would have to give the chrome quality nod to Schwinn,,,,,hands down! That opinion also applies to other manufacturers from the same time period. To this day, I have cleaned up 1960s-1970s Schwinn chrome parts that look almost like brand new (now that applies to bikes that have been fairly well stored out of the elements). They must have had the best chrome tanks available! For what it's worth, that's my opinion. Regards, Kevin Kruger - Grantville, PA

I concur with Kevin on this. It's not even close, IMHO. Schwinn's Engineers insisted on proper surface preparation and permitted no process shortcuts, and therefore very consistently obtained very high-quality triple chrome plating. Greg Parker Ann Arbor, Michigan
