Frenchman Roger Piel (g.s. Gitane) was one of the many crash victims on the road to Roubaix. Injured from head to toe, and streaming blood from severe facial wounds, he would finish the day in the hospital in Amiens. From "But et Club" No.229, 11 April 1950.
