I can confirm Fiamme red label, and Mavic Module E/E2 are clincher 700c. I have two sets here. Fiamme's are 72, and Mavics are mid-70's.

Looking back through the fog to the pre-drinking et cetera days, I seem to recall alloy clincher rims in the early '70s: something Fiamme on mid-line Fiorellis, a smooth Weinmann, the Weinmann concaves definitely. I'd recommend checking Sheldon's Raleigh catalog pages for the Super Course equipment lists: I know they had alloy clincher rims. Seems therefore that the Dawes Galaxy would also have them, since those bikes were head-to head competitors in the Chicago shops.

Mavic mod. E and mod. E2 was out in 1975. Rigida 13-19, Super Champion Gentleman next? Then Ambrosio 19 Extra soon afterwards?
Original impetus was Michelin making the Elan foldable tire from what I understand. That tire tended to blow off the rim though.
All a fuzzy memory... anyone else???
