A touring Claud Butler owner here, used for commuting and weekend joy-riding, although due for a bit of serious maintenance. I've had the bike for about 10 years here in NZ and the owner prior to me about 15 in California, and the owner prior to that ??. My question relates to serial numbers and model identification. I'm aware that the Claud Butler serial's are meant to represent the month and year, however mine is a bit of a mystery if that is the case. The number is on the bottom bracket and is 016955. I haven't checked on the steering and would rather not if I can help it. Could it be that the month and year are reversed? So this would then read January 1969 number 55? If so what model would this refer to do you think? Thanks a lot for you help.
