Subject: [CR]Clear coat

It's been my impression reading the list and riding with the folks in the Silicone Valley Group, that we keep our bikes in as original condition as possible, Ed Litton is currently re-painting a 1960 Bianchi for me, I don't really care if the locknuts on the hubs say 1963 or even 1965.

Some times we ride our "old soldiers" in a less than pristine condition to preserve the original finish. I have ridden a lot of bikes over the years, my oldest bike is a 1958 R Geminiani, there a few Bianchis a Cinelli and my newest a 1976 Masi, I bought new.

I recently saw a "Restored" Galmozzi, the bike looked plastic, the decals appeared to be floating in an eighth inch of clear coat, that's not the way that bike came from the factory. Granted decals are fragile and a light coat of clear is OK to protect them. I have seen several plastic looking vintage bikes lately. Those are not "restored" bikes, so what the hell do we call them and where do they fit in on the list.
