Subject: [CR]stainless spoke failure

Hi Folks:
Chuck Schmidt asked why stainless spokes used to have a questionable reputation.
I am not a diplomated engineer or metallurgist,so can't go into detail, but I was told back then that some stainless spokes were made of the wrong grade, which got more and more brittle where it would flex(especially at the spoke head bend). It's essentially the same situation that dooms aluminum frames.Even steel has better and worse formulations for tolerating repeated flexion.Yellow hard tool steel is almost as bad as glass.
