Ken,

As far as I can tell the only odd thing about that box is that it's 2 in ches over the 130" limit for OS 2 shipping. The distance wasn't too far and it wan't over the 70lb. charge for OS 2 packages. I wouldn't be comp laining.

I just discovered the other day that there is actually a 165" size limit on FedEx ground shipments to Canada and Puerto Rico, apparently. Unfort unately it is a nightmare to ship something via FredEx useing Internatio nal Ground service. I've been trying to get a box sent to Canada for at least 2 weeks and every step is frought with difficulties for me. I've t ried to get rid of this box 6 times so far; but between FredEx and my co mputer printer (or something), I'm getting nowhere. I suspect they will bill my credit card for shipping the box 3 times online when in fact I c an't get my printer to print the friggin label that is absolutely requir ed for an international shipment; which by the way requires that you set up an account with these bastards. My last attempt will involve renting time on one of their instore computers, printing a label there, and the n using my "account" to ship the box. It's driving me NUTS!

Count your blessings.

List,

I know we have discussed here the ways in which bike and frame-sized

packages are now subjected to more size scrutiny by the newer oversize

rules at UPS especially, and to a perhaps lesser extent by FedEx. What

is causing me to wonder is that we, just in time for Christmas,

received my wife's new cello case via UPS. Now granted it did not come

from the North Pole, but sorta close-- Chicago. It was a 23 pound

package and insured for $1000. It measured 56x22x16 inches. When I

got to examining the shipping costs, I was astonished to see that the

total cost was just $24.60. Do those classical music folks know

something we don't?
