This isn't exactly on-topic, but I thought some might want to know about it.

I received a very authentic-looking post from "an ebay member" asking that he be added to my buyers list.

Since I don't have anything on auction right now, I was perplexed, but since I've not seen a spoof like this one, I wasn't suspicious enough. All links lead to an ebay "sign-in" screen...I was dumb enough to sign in, without thinking.

almost immediately I realized what I'd done, and changed my ebay password.

This is a very insidious spoof. Hard to detect if you're not looking for it. I've seen dozens of them, and this one fooled me...not for long, but still.

I guess the moral of the story is never sign in on an even slightly dubious link. When in doubt..don't.

I've been getting these (again) today also. This is a relatively new scam (a couple months old). This is why eBay created the internal e-mail system called "my messages." If it's not also in "my messages" it's phishing, and a spoof e-mail, so check there if in doubt. Report all of these to eBay by forwarding them to spoof@ebay.com. (PayPal's Department for this kind of junk is spoof@paypal.com, BTW).

The one I just received (that I've now received maybe twenty times) reads as follows:

<Hello, I recently placed a bid on item #5590717206 being a wheelchair for me that i really need do to my age (78 years old) and it seems that i can not find the auction anymore...May i please know if you are the seller of the item above?
