To be out riding in icy conditions on major roads not a great idea. But I have done it. Rode when temp in mid 30's or 40's after a cold freezing nite and ice can stay around a long time and in shade a very long time. But when road has been sanded and you see that turn around and head home walk if need be or take side roads and pull over and stop and wait till any cars around pass you.

I'm not sure why I feel the need to pass on this appalling news. The BBC report that this morning near Abergele in North Wales a car skidded on ice and hit a group of twelve cyclists riding in the opposite direction. Four riders were killed, two men in their forties, a man in his sixties and a fourteen year old boy. The father of the boy had his leg broken. The group were members of a club from Rhyl, also in North Wales. The police say that the road had been gritted and they believe that the driver was not speeding. From the TV pictures it seemed that the accident occured on a curve in the road. Ray green, Brighton, England." Charles Nighbor Walnut Creek, CA
