That's a 5/16x24 (5/16" diameter x 24 threads per inch) socket head cap screw. You should be able to get replacements at any hardware store...stainless ones, even, if you look a little. The only thing that makes it even remotely odd is that it's UNF (fine threads) vs. UNC (coarse threads).

The 8mm you specify if the diameter you measured, right? ...not the length. That would be an odd length (and too short) for the application you describe. 3/4" or 1" would be about right for the length.

I have two PW front hubs from the 70s, both with 1/4" allen head bolts.

The bolts measure 8mm, and my thread gauge tells me "24G 3/16 7/32."

Is this a standard or metric size? Is it a crossover between the two sta ndards?

Would I be able to find bolts threaded like this in a hardware store? Or is is some oddball old PW thing like using a 1/4" allen head fittings?
