YaKnow- all this has me thinking. A little while back I offered a Guerciotti, all pantographed with a real Super Record group (titanium pedal and BB axle) to the list for $1000. No takers.

So once I get through my current private hell of another bar exam wilst turning 50, I think I will part this out as an experiment and report the results.

> the very first bike i sold on ebay, close to two years ago, was a

\r?\n> colnago master that i'd put together from scratch and owned for

\r?\n> well over 10 years. it was not a rare or unique frame, but it was

\r?\n> in beautiful condition, and some of the components were quite nice

\r?\n> and unusual.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> shortly after the sale, i started to see "my" components being

\r?\n> sold on ebay. it was hard to accept that my buyer didn't

\r?\n> appreciate the bike the way i had. in fact, i think that

\r?\n> philistine had bought my bike just to get his hands on the tires!

\r?\n> the tires were ultra-cool gommitalia yellow tread tubulars designed

\r?\n> by ferrari for colnago, complete with a tiny prancing horse logo -

\r?\n> way cool - and as far as i could tell, the frame and the tires were

\r?\n> the only things the guy did not sell off. i definitely felt some

\r?\n> sort of betrayal and resentment.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> but that was a long time ago. while not exactly jaded, these

\r?\n> days i have learned to accept and understand "parting out." it

\r?\n> wasn't a "significant" bike, and like lou said, it belongs to the

\r?\n> other guy, so i try not to judge him for what he does with it. for

\r?\n> all i know, he parted it out in order to finance other bike purchases.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> another thing i learned, is that I SHOULD'VE BEEN THE ONE TO PART

\r?\n> OUT THE BIKE! i would have done better than i did selling it as a

\r?\n> whole bike. if i had that bike to sell again, i wouldn't hesitate

\r?\n> to part it out.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> I spent 3 long years getting together all the parts needed to put

\r?\n> together a

\r?\n> NOS Alan Record. All super record parts, everything on the bike

\r?\n> NOS! I needed

\r?\n> some cash about a month ago, so I had to sacrifice one of my

\r?\n> "ladies". I put

\r?\n> it up for auction on Ebay and sold it to a guy. He busted my balls

\r?\n> about

\r?\n> making sure that I packed it correctly "so I would not damage this

\r?\n> beautiful

\r?\n> bike"- Low and behold, I see the thing parted up on Ebay today. I

\r?\n> got such a pit

\r?\n> in my stomach! He is even lying saying that it was a demo bike that

\r?\n> was in a

\r?\n> shop.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> I know that this is common, but it feels like someone took one of

\r?\n> my

\r?\n> children and parted out their organs! OK, I know that is stretching

\r?\n> it a bit. I just

\r?\n> feel betrayed. Oh well, I had to get it off my chest- hopefully you

\r?\n> guys/gals can empathize with me.
