Ouch! I listed a mixte on ebay that claimed to be from the 1920s. Steve suggested one would be gullible for even mentioning it to the CR list; that the mixte in question was not more than 20 years old.

To which I respond: I certainly am less experienced than most here. I could be easily fooled; that's why I'm rather cautious about buying anything except at thrift stores, where I can afford my mistakes. At the same time, I'm interested in lowly bikes, which this mixte, whatever its age, is, as well as thoroughbreds. And FWIW I didn't say buy it. I didn't verify its providence, authenticity or age. I didn't express an opinion about its worth or quality. And I have no connection with the seller. I just thought it looked different and interesting and thought someone might, as usual on the CR list, have insight to share about the brand. Certainly Steve has not let me down, despite the exercised bluntness of his take. :-)

Now, as to Steve's claims about the bike and his bold accusation about the seller, I think it would be decent of him to explain for all the novices' benefit (and I am certainly one of them) exactly how he can be sure the seller of this bike IS a scam artist and exactly the evidence he has to point to...beyond the name "Old Italy" which hardly seems conclusive proof to me that this bike is of relatively recent vintage. Go ahead, Steve, point out the components and frame design and construction characteristics that make you positive it can't be over 20 years old. I'm sure it will be easy for you. I would like to hear, so, as The Who once sang, I won't get fooled again. BTW, I'm scheduled for an eye test. :-)

Best regards,
