Excuse all these posts today...
as I was "shopping" GB stems on eBay I came to the conclusion that the all
too common GB marked stem we associate with the Raleigh Super Course etc.
of the bike boom are all too common. On this side of the Atlantic. One
seldom sees them on eBay UK. What did seem to be the common GB stem and into the early 70s was the older (and I think much nicer) "spearpoint" one
with the GB England on the stem neck. This is like a solid version of th e dreaded Ava death stem on the PX-10s. Just really really smart looking. And interestingly, it was the stem that GB supplied to Carltons like the Pro a s late as 1970-71 whereas Raleigh badged Pros had that wild and wacky combination of a 3ttt Record stem mated, if that's the word, to GB bars.
But an afternoon pouring over old issues of "Cycling" c. 1950-70 would t ell all..
