In addition to the sage council offered by both Chuck and Jerry regarding wire bead clinchers being most suitable for use with drop center profile rims, I might add that I have also used with great success Tufo tubular clinchers in the form of either their CS-22, CS-33 Pro, and CS-33 Special for this very same application. While these are not necessarily a "least cost" option, they are extremely durable, are available with either a vintage "gum wall" look (...excepting the CS-33 Special) or in all black, can be fitted using a slightly narrower profile should you find that more to your taste, and may be employed across a greater range of inflation pressures including much higher psi than otherwise available using a traditional wire bead tire, once again, should that better suit your contemplated usage.

While building up a couple of NISI MERCURIO D'ORO 1977 clincher wheels for my Girardengo, I noticed that they are straight sided. Is there a tire(s) that works best with this type of "non-hook" rim? I searched the CR archives without success. (maybe I need help with that process!)
