Greg, I just recieved a complete bike from France two days ago, that was sent via the French postal system. It was mailed "economique" service, or surface mail. Box measured 40"x29"x9" Inside was the complete bike, including racks, fenders, 650B wheels etc. The box was beaten up a bit, and one side was opened a bit, but the contents all seemed fine, and nothing was missing. The shipper did a good packing job!

If sent this way I would ask your shipper to pack very carefuly, and use plenty of tape on the outside of the box. Also place any loose, or small parts in plastic bags tied to the frame, or in small boxes taped to the frame, in case the big box is opened up during transit. This way none of the small stuff can fall out if the big box suffers a failure. Best of luck, I hope this helps.
