Spot welding? And we thought all the old-time British builders used pins or common nails to hold the tubes together during construction. The funny thing is that Richard Sachs, who learned his trade at Witcomb, still does it that way, and it's one one several things my Sachs and Witcomb have in common.
I imagine, though, that during really busy periods, a few anuacturers took such shortcuts. Just like the customer who brings in a damaged bike and utters the motto "just riding along", there clearly were shops who sent bikes out the door after uttering the motto "the owner will never notice."
