Hi ho Angel in Verona:

I never heard of a builder removing the internal pins.. Maybe someone has done this (for weight reduction purposes?) but that would be extremely unusual. If you don't see pins, there most likely never were pins. I did not use pins (except once)... I might say that most builders do not use pins to hold the joints in place but use jigs for this purpose... There arer many ways to build, differing techniques, all capable of yielding excellent results in skilled hands (this last is the most important aspect by far.)

I recently picked up a Chesini were the pins are visible on the inside. Do some builders leave them in on purpose, as a mark as to how it was built? Or, does leaving no trace of them is the preferred approach by builders? http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/NAHMB-06_Richard-Sachs/Richard_Sachs_30
