As I SEEM to one on the older riders, talk is about, as in my previous posts, I still ride 4-5times a week adding up to some 900 miles per month, I think my continued progress is all due to my training and riding when younger Plus I Have NEVER smoked.!! I was ALLWAYS taught to ride as low a gear as possible, twiddling we called it, winter time a 46x20-21 cog wth 27" wheels SINGLE FIXED gear, this has I feel keept my KNEES in fairly good shape, I am often passed by young bucs on Carbon dodah super bikes stripped down to the min. going like stink in a 53x11 or some such, OF COURSE I can no longer hold them, my mind often says "Give it a Go John" BUT the legs say otherwise, My advice for what its worth!!! IS to the younger riders, TRY training on lower gears, load your bike up to add weight, THEN when race time,( if thats your bag,) comes strip it down, you WILL notice a big differance in race times. My self because of all the mles I did on the older classic bikes we now collect, I do feel moore at home on one, in fact when I had my Douglas TI, I tended to ride beyond MY NOW ability, because of the bike I was riding, it was allways to challenge the younger guys I was riding with, A great rider once said "ON ANY GIVEN DAY THERES ALLWAYS SOMEONE FASTER THAN YOU" Happy riding and keep them spinning(Twiddling), John CrumpOldstillriding his arseoffBrit Parker (Snowey)Colorado USA
