"This post brings up something that has been annoying me for years - am I the only one who can never find a date on a Brooks saddle? I think maybe I don't understand the place it is said to be stamped. I assumed it was the curved steel plate that supports the rear edge of the saddle. But I've never found a date there, not even on what I'm pretty sure are original Brooks Pros on my very early 70's Falcon San Remo and CID touring bike. Was the date being stamped on Brooks Pros in the early 70's? If so, am I looking in the wrong place? Where should I be looking?"

hi Jerry and all,

All I can tell you is that I agree with Rich Robinson. The '73 Pro that I have is marked in the cantle plate. Here's a picture: http://i2.tinypic.com/snc7jm.jpg I'm assuming(?) that the "B" indicates the week or fortnight or some other fraction of a year.

It differs from the marking in the 2000 Pro that I have: http://i2.tinypic.com/snc9de.jpg Again, it appears to use the last two digits of the year, with a letter to designate something else.

The only thing that confuses me is the Swift that I have (purchased slightly used). The code indicates "8M9". Did Brooks make titanium railed Swifts in '89?? (sorry for being OT-ish. e-mail me offlist if you know the answer...)
