It was offered in 1978 or 1979 for sure. My little brother has a Gitane that my uncle living in Paris bought for my dad in either '78 or '79. It was originally all 600EX except the hubs, and I think it probably had the hubs when built but my uncle had the shop swap the wheels for clinchers so the bike has always had Maillard hubs.
