After following the all the interesting various views and comments on the subject I have always thought that the conventional cycle shoe and cleats should be used when riding the classic cycle. I do'nt condemn the quick release cleats I think they are great but only in their place on the later models yet to be vintage in the future.
The shoes and cleats are fairly easily available here in the UK I only bought two sets cleats on a few months ago. They have never been used to date as believe it or not I'm still using my steel riveted engraved "Anquetil" cleats from the 1960's . They still appear to have much more wear in them yet and probably see me out and wo'nt need the new ones!
