Amen, brother! For decades - I never had a problem using this method. Used this method on many Detto's over the years. My fave (read "only") vintage shoes are my late 70's Sidi's that came with steel plate and nylon cleat already attached. I put Barelli plates on them and have never forgotten - as I never peened back the nails from he heel plates - LOL! A recent OT Serotta (late 80's - early 90's Colorado II) that I inherited from a friend came with "new style" Time pedals. I figures - why not step into the 21st century! After getting some Northwave shoes on sale - finding that they lacked the necessary "base plates", waiting for weeks to get them on special order, finally getting on the road... It was interesting... Court is still out. Snap in - snap out is interesting and at times rather nice - once you are used to it. I'm just getting back on the bike after a prolonged hiatus, and despite the fact that I've now had these for months - I still sometimes reach down to undo a strap or try and flick the pedal up when I take off. Upside - you'll never scratch your really nice clips ;~) Downside - aside from looking like everyone else on the road - I misjudged the duration of a stop light the other day and (not being a master at a track stand) - went down in a heap from not being able to just yank my foot up and out. This has no cost me some severely bruised pride, a week plus off the bike, and an incredibly sore ankle. The upside - you never forget how to get up really fast and check the bike for damage before you ascertain your own injuries...just like going down in a Sr. IV race in the Enright era of So Cal... WOW! Really overtaken by nostalgia!
