Dear Mr. Ross, Many thanks. Simply wonderful picture of the branch of the sport I adore. This was Alfred Letourner fourth win when partnered with Marcel Guimbretiere, the three previous victories with him were 1930 Chicago and two New York wins in 1931. Alfred left France in the early 1920's after some successes in the old world, going to America was a very wise decision as he became very popular and successful in Canada and the States. He could clown as well as ride very hard just what an ideal sixer should be. He did well at motor-paced and road racing as well. Marcel Guimbretiere was born in Les Sables d'Olones on the 4th December 1910.He started racing at a very young age and was a professional by 19. Marcel went into 6 Day racing straight away and was an instant success. He had everything a sixer needs: speed, stamina, good looks and a very pleasant manner off the track. He was one of the most elegant riders both on and off the track. Most of his Sixes were riden with his countryman Paul Broccardo and they mostly rode in blue and white striped racing vests, they were soon named "Les gars de la Marine" "The Sailors". Marcel was well liked in the USA and Europe. Victories: 1930 Chicago (Letourneur). 1931 New York twice (Letourneur). 1932 Berlin (Paul Broccardo). 1932 Philadelphia (Letourneur). 1933 Paris (Paul Broccardo). 1934 Amsterdam (Paul Broccardo). 1934 Dortmund (Paul Broccardo). 1934 New York (Paul Broccardo). 1935 Paris (Paul Broccardo). 1938. St. Etienne (Cor Wals). Yours fraternally Frank. PS. Have you got any pictures of Sid Cozens on the American boards please?
