Matthew: I've got a '71. A few things to consider: Campag brakes will very likel y not reach. They didn't on my bike. I use Mafac Racers, which are exc ellent and cheap (and note that if you use a Mafac front hanger, which i s lighter and more elegant looking than the stock Weinmann, you will hav e to file the inner diameter a bit to fit the steerer - its no big deal) . Also note that using 700c vs. 27" rims will exacerbate the reach issu e. Looking at my bike, which has 27" wheels, I'm not sure that even the
Mafacs would reach with 700c. Harris cyclery sells some nice Sun rims in 27." With regard to gearing, the lowest you can use with the Nuovo R ecord derailleur is a 28 tooth rear with a 42 front ring. You'll have t o carefully adjust the chain length and rear axle position in the dropou t, but it will work fine. If you can't find NR chainrings, you can use new TA rings in the 144 bolt center diameter size. Just bear in mind th at the TA are "super record" style, not NR style. Finally, I recommed 3 2mm tires such as the excellent Continental Gatorskin (which actually me asures 27.5mm on the rim). Good luck, its a great bike, Len Grossman S. Orange NJ
